Analysis on stress corrosion cracking of 304 stainless steel sinks

In order to investigate the corrosion phenomenon on the bottom surface,especially around the water outlet of sinks made of 304 stainless steel,the chemical composition,microstructure and crack morphology of such sinks as well as the composition of the corrosion products were tested and analyzed by means of the direct reading spectrometer,optical microscope,scanning electron microscope and energy-dispersive-spectrometer.The results show that the chemical composition and microstructure of 304 stainless steel meet the JIS G 4305 standard.It has been found that the main reason for sink corrosion is untimely cleaning of the stamping oil,as a result of which stress corrosion occurs under the combined effect of the martensitic structure,tensile stress and chloride ions.
